Au centre de la Cour Napoléon, s'érige l'œuvre d'art de l’architecte sino-américain Ieoh Ming Pei:
la Pyramide du "Grand Louvre".
Après tant de débats et de polémiques, que serait le Grand Musée du Louvre sans sa Pyramide.
Projet voulu par le Président de la République François Mitterrand. Celui-ci désigna en 1983,
l'architecte Ieoh Ming Pei qui avait déjà réalisé les extensions du Fine Arts Museum de Boston
et de la National Gallery of Art à Washington.
« J’ai fait œuvre de paysagiste plutôt que d’architecte.
Je me suis inspiré de Le Nôtre plus que de tout autre.
La géométrie même du module qui rythme la Pyramide est française. »

At the heart of the Cour Napoléon stands the masterpiece of Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei:
the Pyramid of the "Grand Louvre."
After so much debate and controversy, what would the Grand Louvre Museum be without its Pyramid?
This project was initiated by President François Mitterrand, who in 1983 appointed the architect I.M. Pei, who had already designed the extensions to the Fine Arts Museum in Boston and the National Gallery
of Art in Washington.
According to I.M. Pei:
"I approached the work of a landscape architect rather than an architect.
I drew inspiration from Le Nôtre more than anyone else.
The very geometry of the module that structures the Pyramid is French."
