À la veille de la première journée VIP d'Art Basel Qatar, le Musée d'art islamique de Doha s'est métamorphosé grâce à une intervention surprise de Jenny Holzer, figure emblématique
de l'art conceptuel. Les invités ont commencé à arriver à 21h00 dans ce bâtiment iconique conçu par I.M. Pei. À 21h35, les lumières se sont tamisées pour dévoiler le dixième projet
du programme « Projets spéciaux » d'Art Basel Qatar : une performance chorégraphiée mêlant deux projections simultanées de poèmes – l'une sur la façade principale du musée et l'autre dans sa cour intérieure – accompagnée d'un spectacle époustouflant de plus de 700 drones déployés dans le ciel nocturne.
Intitulée SONG (2026), cette œuvre in situ a été commandée par Art Basel Qatar pour
sa première édition. Présentant des poèmes de Mahmoud Darwish, le regretté poète palestinien dont la voix lyrique a façonné la littérature arabe moderne, et de Nujoom Alghanem,
la poétesse et cinéaste émiratie de renom, connue pour son écriture intimiste et incisive, Holzer investit l'espace public avec des textes arabes et anglais, créant ainsi lumière, rythme
et interruption. Oscillant entre intimité et monumentalité, SONG métamorphose l'architecture en un champ éphémère de lumière et de langage – un chœur fugace de mots se déployant
sur la pierre, l'air et le ciel – invitant le public à s'arrêter, lire et réfléchir ensemble. L'installation complète a duré 15 minutes, un spectacle éphémère qui a marqué un début prometteur pour Art Basel Qatar et l'année à venir.
Après sa première, SONG reste visible chaque soir sous forme de projection sur la façade principale du musée, du 2 au 7 février, de 17h30 à 5h00, pendant toute la durée de la foire.

was transformed by a surprise intervention by the conceptual art icon Jenny Holzer.
Guests began to arrive at 9:00pm at the landmark building designed by I.M. Pei. At 9:35pm, the lights were dimmed to unveil the tenth project in Art Basel Qatar’s Special Projects program: a choreographed moment combining two simultaneous projections of poetry
– one across the museum’s main façade and another in its inner courtyard – accompanied
by a breathtaking performance of over 700 drones that unfolded in the night sky.

for its inaugural edition. Presenting poems by Mahmoud Darwish, the late Palestinian poet whose lyrical voice has shaped modern Arabic literature, and Nujoom Alghanem,
the acclaimed Emirati poet and filmmaker known for her intimate, incisive writing,
Holzer brings Arabic and English text into public space as illumination, rhythm,
and interruption. Moving between intimacy and monumentality, SONG transforms architecture into a temporary field of light and language – a fleeting chorus of words across stone, air, and sky – inviting audiences to pause, read, and reflect together.
The full configuration lasted 15 minutes, a momentary spectacle that marked a confident beginning for Art Basel Qatar and the year ahead.
