HODA AFSHAR Série : Parler le vent 2015-20
Dans les îles du détroit d'Ormuz, au large de la côte sud de l'Iran, une culture locale particulière a émergé, fruit de plusieurs siècles d'échanges culturels et économiques. Au cœur de cette culture se trouve
la croyance en l'existence de vents – généralement considérés comme néfastes
– capables de posséder une personne et de provoquer des maladies.
Une pratique rituelle correspondante implique un chef de culte héréditaire qui parle au vent
par l'intermédiaire du patient malade, dans l'une des nombreuses langues locales ou étrangères,
afin de négocier son départ.
Les croyances concernant ces vents sont rarement évoquées ouvertement, que ce soit par méfiance
ou parce que certains croient que le langage a le pouvoir de manifester l'invisible.
L'existence de croyances et de pratiques similaires dans de nombreux pays africains suggère
que ce culte pourrait avoir été introduit en Iran depuis l'Afrique du Sud-Est par le biais de la traite
des esclaves arabes. Ce projet documente l’histoire de ces vents et les traces qu’ils ont laissées sur ces îles et leurs habitants — un témoignage visible de l’invisible, vu à travers l’œil de l’imagination.

In the islands of the Strait of Hormuz, off the southern coast of Iran, a distinctive local culture has emerged as the result of many centuries of cultural and economic exchange. Central to this culture is a belief in the existence of winds - generally thought of as harmful - that may possess a person, causing illness or disease.
A corresponding ritual practice involves a hereditary cult leader, who speaks with the wind through the afflicted patient in one of many local or foreign tongues in order to negotiate its departure.
Beliefs about these winds are rarely openly discussed, whether it's because some are suspicious or because some believe language has the power to manifest the invisible. The existence of similar beliefs and practices in many African countries suggests the cult may have been brought to Iran from southeast Africa through the Arab trade of enslaved people. This project documents the history of these winds and the traces they have left on these islands and their inhabitants — a visible record of the invisible, seen through the eye of the imagination.

เกาะในช่องแคบฮอร์มุซ นอกชายฝั่งทางใต้ของอิหร่าน วัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่นอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์ได้ถือกำเนิดขึ้นจากผลแห่งการแลกเปลี่ยนทางวัฒนธรรมและเศรษฐกิจอันยาวนาน นับศตวรรษ แก่นแห่งวัฒนธรรมนี้คือศรัทธาในลมร้าย ซึ่งเชื่อ กันว่าอาจเข้าสิ่งสู่ร่างมนุษย์ ก่อให้เกิดโรคาพาธ พิธีกรรมที่สืบเนื่องมานั้นเกี่ยวข้องกับผู้นำลัทธิสืบสายโลหิต ผู้ซึ่งเจรจาต่อลมผ่านร่างผู้ป่วยด้วยภาษาท้องถิ่นหรือภาษาต่างประเทศ เพื่อ ขับไล่มันให้จากไป
