En Italie, Joe Colombo développe un espace multifonctionnel à partir de combinaisons d'unités.
Dès 1958, Pierre Paulin révolutionne le mode de conception et de fabrication du siège grâce à ses recherches sur l'élasticité du textile.
Les corps quittent leur posture verticale pour s'allonger, se rapprocher du sol, sur un mode ludique.
Les matériaux s'adaptent aux nouvelles morphologies du corps en mouvement.
Les meubles ne font plus qu'un avec le sol, que ce soit le siège F577 dit Langue (1963-1966)
de Paulin ou la série Djinn (1965) d'Olivier Mourgue. Architecte et designer danois, Verner Panton réalise quant à lui des environnements immersifs dans une approche globale de l'espace. Living-Sculpture
(1970-1971) est tout à la fois sculpture et architecture.
Les limites s'effacent: l'objet de mobilier est devenu un espace habitable, un paysage artificiel.

The 1960s were marked by the Pop wave, which openly expressed its hedonism and reinvented modernity. Forms were liberated by the possibilities offered by new materials, such as foam and plastics, and the domestic space became a modular environment thanks to lightweight furniture. In Italy, Joe Colombo developed a multifunctional space based on combinations of units. In 1958, Pierre Paulin revolutionised chair design and manufacture with his research into the elasticity of textiles. Bodies abandoned their vertical posture to lie down, closer to the ground, in a more light-hearted way. Materials adapted to the new morphologies of the body in motion. Furniture became one with the floor, whether it be the F577 Tongue chair (1963-1966) by Paulin or the Djinn series (1965) by Olivier Mourgue. At the same time, Danish architect and designer Verner Panton made immersive environments in a global approach to space. Living-Sculpture (1970-1971) is both sculpture and architecture.
Boundaries were erased: furniture became a habitable space, an artificial landscape.
