Nous ne sommes pas protégés ; nous sommes opprimés et ridiculisés. Les autorités ne nous autorisent pas à parler [lors du culte] et nos enfants n'ont pas le droit d'apprendre notre langue maternelle.

leurs frères et sœurs et leurs proches pour fuir.
Les images sont indescriptibles. En une seule journée, beaucoup ont perdu leur père, leur femme

Ils nous ont forcés à vivre une vie différente. Nous avons versé des larmes et laissé tous nos souvenirs derrière nous. Rien n'a pu surmonter la douleur.
I thank God for giving me this chance to share my story with you all, about what had happened to me in the past.
It seems the cries of the Highland people (are not being heard). Our people are still losing land and houses. Our pains of being systematically persecuted by the Communists still continue.
Each part of our culture is slowly vanishing. We all were born and grew up in the Highlands. We were without protection and only got oppression and mocking. The authorities do not allow us to raise our voices (in worship] And our children and grandchildren were not allowed to learn our own mother tongue, instead they were forced to learn the Vietnamese language.
We practiced the protestant faith. They arrested us and stated that we were following the religion of America and France.
In 2001, we stood up to fight for human rights, the right to meet basic needs, the right to live, ancestral land rights, and to reclaim justice. The government sent the military into the village and arrested the pastors and put them in jail. Some people even died in jail, some died in the forest while hiding, some died in the river while fleeing. Many people had to leave their homes their possessions, their families, siblings and their beloved ones to escape.
Those scenes cannot be described. Just within a day, many people had lost their father, the wives lost their husbands. They lost their lives on the land where they grew up. Life has not been happy since.
On a Christmas holiday during a family gathering, the government arrested us and proclaimed us to be terrorists against the state. They convicted us with many different charges. They forced us into a different way of life. We left our lands in tears and left behind all the memories. There is no such a thing overcoming those pains.

Le 10 mars 2001, la police vietnamienne a détruit et incendié mon église. Ils m'ont arrêté,
ainsi que d'autres personnes présentes, et nous ont ramenés au commissariat du sous-district de Nhon Hoa. Ils m'ont battu, menotté et poignardé à la jambe avec un bâton de fer, car ils disaient que je suivais
une religion hostile à l'État et qu'il s'agissait d'une religion américaine.
Jusqu'en 2011, la police a continué de m'arrêter, de me frapper et de me gifler.
En 2013, j'ai fui en Thaïlande et demandé la protection du HCR. Cependant, le bureau du HCR ne m'a pas accordé, ni à ma femme ni à mes enfants, le statut de réfugié. Ils ont déclaré que mon témoignage

et mes preuves étaient faux, qu'il s'agissait de mensonges. En 2023, ma femme, mes enfants et moi sommes allés devant le bâtiment du HCR pour réclamer justice. Le HCR a déclaré qu'il nous enverrait, moi et ma famille, au Myanmar et que les troupes birmanes nous tueraient par balles.
Le 16 octobre 2023, ma famille a été arrêtée et détenue au centre de détention indien.
Pendant ma détention, j'ai été battue par d'autres détenus, eux aussi vietnamiens.
Ils ont partagé ma nourriture et m'ont confisqué mon argent.

On March 10, 2001, the Vietnamese police destroyed and set fire to my church. They arrested me and other people in the church and took us back to the police station in sub-district Nhon Hoa. They beat me and handcuffed me and used an iron stick to stab my leg because the police said that I followed a religion that was against the state and stated that it was an American religion. Until 2011, the police still arrested and beat me and slapped me in my face.
In 2013, I fled to Thailand and I sought the protection from UNHCR, however, the UNHCR office did not give me, my wife and my children refugee status. They stated that my testimony and my evidence was not true, that it was a lie. In 2023, my wife, my children and I went in front of the UNHCR building to demand justice. UNHCR said they would send me and my family to Myanmar and let Myanmar troops shoot us to death.
On October 16, 2023, my family was arrested and detained in IDC. While detained in IDC, I was beaten by other detainees in IDC who happened to be Vietnamese people too, they split my food and took away my money.
In the future, I want to have protection and justice and freedom of religion. I thank God for protecting me today. Amen!
